Job Description:
We are currently seeking skilled and experienced Surgical First Assistants to join our team. In this role, you will work alongside surgeons and theatre teams, providing expert assistance during surgical procedures. Shifts are available on a daily or multi-day basis, offering you the flexibility to work in different hospitals and adapt your schedule to suit your needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide skilled assistance to surgeons during a wide range of surgical procedures.
Prepare and maintain the sterile field, ensuring all surgical instruments and equipment are ready for use.
Assist with tissue retraction, wound exposure, haemostasis, and other intraoperative tasks as directed by the surgeon.
Accurately anticipate the needs of the surgical team to ensure smooth and efficient procedures.
Maintain high standards of infection control and adhere to all theatre protocols.
Provide post-operative care assistance, including wound closure and dressing, as required.
Support the theatre team in pre-operative and post-operative tasks.
Ensure compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, and professional guidelines.
What We’re Looking For:
Valid NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) or HCPC registration.
Recognised qualification as a Surgical First Assistant (e.g., Advanced Scrub Practitioner qualification or equivalent).
Proven experience working as a Surgical First Assistant in a theatre environment.
Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, aseptic techniques, and theatre protocols.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Flexibility to work in different locations and adapt to various healthcare environments.
